Vibration

In Horology vibration is the term used for the displacement of the oscillating weight. Each oscillation is separated into two vibrations and generates the ticking sound of the watch. At a frequency of 2.5 Hz in a mechanical watch, the balance typically carries out five vibrations per second, or 18,000 per hour.

A watch with a more precise movement may have a frequency vibration of 5Hz, that is the balance carries out ten vibrations per second.
