Rotor

The rotor, also called the oscillating weight is used in the self-winding mechanism of watches.

The rotor swings freely in both directions through 360 degrees in order to wind the watch.

It is often made of brass although on luxury models can be made of precious metals such as gold or platinum and have engravings or other decoration.

The rotor system was invented by Hubert Sarton in 1778.
