Roman Numerals

Roman numerals are the numeric system used in ancient Rome, using combinations of letters from the Latin alphabet to represent values.

The numbers 1 to 10 can be expressed in Roman numerals as follows: I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X.

Roman numerals have traditionally been used on watch and clock dials.

On watches the number 4 is usually written as IIII in order to balance the look of the dial in relation to VIII and the number 9 is usually displayed in its IX form (not VIIII)
