Repeater

A watch that chimes on the hour is called a repeater, there are many different types. A five minute repeater chimes on the hour as well as every quarter hour and every five minutes.

A watch that chimes every fifteen minutes or whenever the user wishes is called a quarter or demi-quarter repeater.

Indicating the time to the nearest minute the “minute repeater” can chime the number of hours, quarter hours and minutes on demand.

A repeater watch is a complex and expensive timepiece.
