Repeater Watch

A repeater watch is one which chimes on demand the hours and sometimes quarters and minutes. In the early eighteenth century Abraham Breguet introduced a reliable all or nothing mechanism which resolved a long standing problem in which the slide – which wound the repeater power spring- was released before the watch was fully cocked.

As a result of this mechanism repeater watches became much more popular and reliable. Repeater watches are fundamentally different from striking clocks or watches which do not strike on demand.
