Minute Repeater

The minute repeater was invented by Thomas Mudge in 1750. It uses a complicated, in-built striking system to indicate the exact time on request.

Following the determination of the time a small hammer strikes a timbre (miniature bell) to produce sound.

A low note is used to indicate the hours while a low note followed by a high one indicates the quarter hours, and minutes are indicated by high notes.

Using these notes the user is able to calculate the time up to the nearest minute
