Jumping Hours

French watchmaker Blondeau invented the system of jumping hours in the 1930’s. With a jumping hours watch the hours are not indicated using a hand but rather using a small aperture through which digits are displayed.

The digit changes instantly on the hour hence the term “jumping”.

Jumping hour watches often use traditional hands to indicate the minutes and seconds in combination.
