Gong
A watchmaking component, a gong is used in small clocks, alarm clocks and sometimes watches. It is made of either a strip of hardened steel and hit by a hammer, or could be a bronze and silver alloy bell.
A gong is sometimes also called a “repeater gong”
With a low-pitched sound it indicates the hours and with one simultaneous high and low-pitched sound to indicate the quarter hours. To play certain melodies in chiming watches gongs use more than three pitches.
