Cloisonne

Cloisonne is an enamelling technique somewhat similar to Champleve in which delicate strands of gold, silver and sometimes copper are fixed to a metal object in the form of a design. The resultant cell spaces are fitted with finely ground enamel. The whole item is then fired in a kiln until the enamel has fused. When it has cooled it is ground smooth and polished.

It is a process that has been in use since ancient times. Although primarily used in jewellery and other ornaments it can be used for decorating watch dials and cases.
