Cam

A cam is a component which rotates or reciprocates to a defined motion on a follower (cam-follower). They are a means of converting a simple mechanism into a complex defined motion which can accurately be timed.

In chronograph’s, cams in the form of shuttles are used to activate the hammer which produces sounds and are also responsible for stopping or starting the chronograph.
