To celebrate their 130th anniversary, Edox like many others watch brands follow the trend of making “tributes” to the legendary models of the past. Edox is releasing new editions of several of their most influential timepieces; the Geoscope, the neat 500m water-resistant Hydro Sub and an elegant timepiece, the Les Bémonts Open Vision Automatic. In 1971, family-owned watch brand Edox introduced the Geoscope, the “world’s first” WorldTimer wristwatch. It was a 42mm, bold and beautiful timepiece and became very popular among collectors. Geoscope returns to excite a whole new generation of watch lovers.

The original Geoscope’s unique colourful “earthmap” dial showed the globe as viewed from the South Pole. An inner bezel, displaying 24 divisions, made one complete revolution every 24 hours, the watch also showed GMT time, and the sun’s position.
The new Edox Geoscope GMT Automatic Limited Edition, which I think will be a coveted piece for some collector’s. But, this isn’t a watch that will appeal to everyone tastes. The dial, doesn’t look as complex as the original model, which is a good thing. The new Geoscope comes with thinner lines, less details, and lihgter colours, the dial is more pleasant to look at.

The Edox Geoscope GMT Automatic Limited Edition retains a big the inner rotating 24-hour GMT scale with its incredible “world map”, this time as viewed from the North Pole, and a circular date display on a medium-sized sub-dial at 6 o’clock. The second time zone is indicated with a thin red GMT-hour hand that features an unusual tip, which matches up with the hours.
Powered by a Edox caliber 07 automatic movement with a module for the GMT functions, the Geoscope Limited Edition is water-resistant to 200 metres/650 feet. The watch comes in a refined and robust 46mm-wide steel case with a matching steel-link bracelet, this beautiful watch is presented in a special collector’s box.

The Edox Geoscope GMT Automatic will be available in limited editions of 300 pieces worldwide (individually numbered 001 to 300). Overall, the Geoscope Limited Edition is simply an updated and modern re-imagining version of the original classic, with its orange hour markers and distinctive hands paying homage to those on the original watch. Retail price is around $5,000.
